A mural illustration produced for the platform at Swansea train station. I produced two murals on wooden boards, one of Swansea beach and this one, Swansea marina.
I created sketches from life as well as referring to photographs. Using bright colours and confidant large brush marks to create the base and then adding flashes of colour and smaller brush marks for smaller details. I was very happy with the energy and bright atmosphere created by the painting. Not capturing a photographic representation rather a fast communication of colours, energy, sunlight and personal feelings felt from the view.

Although there are a lot more colours used in the painting than I usually use, they are controlled and carefully used to ensure each area is as effective as the one next to it. The way in which I draw and observe largely focuses on how one mark will affect the next.

A large mural painting commissioned for the Paediatric ward of Oakwood Ward in Morriston Hospital. Aiming to create a busy, landscape full of bright colours and many animals for the children to search for. Acrylic paints were used onto wooden boards.

Property Manager Fiona Edwards, who commissions’ art works for the ABM University Health Board, commented: “The paintings have made all the difference to the entrance corridor to the ward and we are fortunate to have worked with two very talented young artists starting out on their career.”

A private commission painting for a living room, I was asked to create two paintings, one of an elephant and one of a savanna tree. Aiming to capture the scene using soft colours and marks. Natural colours from life but also capturing the heat and atmosphere exaggerating colours at some points.

Inspired by many of the Impressionists and the technique of pointillism. I like to create the whole area of the surface at the same time, gradually building up detail and creating depth. This allows me to connect all areas using the sample colour palette and also helps me to predict the effect one mark will make on another area of the painting.
This painting was produced using acrylic paints onto paper to be presented and hung in a frame.
