A Valentines Day card illustration featuring the flight of a dove, the symbol of love and peace. A nature based card, showing the grace and beauty of the animal’s features using pen and ink. Tiny marks on the neck captured using single pen pricks, shadows using crosshatching. Energetic movement of the pen, to replicate the movement of the bird’s wings.
The white dove is so pure and fresh, I used white paper to create the drawing and then added a vibrant pink background in Photoshop to further exaggerate this. The small hearts floating about the bird are placed on rectangular white backgrounds; these bring structure and control to the image and add an element of rising upwards. The strong shape and bright colours would stand out on a shelf.
