Part of the series of Birmingham illustration cards I created for shops to sell around Birmingham.
In this illustration I wished to capture the tranquillity of the Cathedral grounds as well as the power and beauty of the building’s structure. I enjoyed using lines to highlight/describe the sections of the building and turned my ink pen upside down to create solid ink colour for shadows. The contrast of marks used to show different areas in the draw really help to describe what I see, it means less marks are needed to create an impact. Pen, inks and watercolours were used throughout this series of cards.
