I love to draw beautiful food and a range of different cupcakes together seemed like a sweet image for a greetings illustrated card. Pen and inks and watercolours were used to illustrate the different textures and toppings of the cupcakes. The way I draw I feel brings even more individual character to each one.
When designing the card I did not wish to take any attention away from the illustrations or to have a busy layout. I used Photoshop to line the cakes up giving the detailed, expressive illustrations structure and control. The typography used is simple, balancing the illustrations. The colours are taken from elements in the illustrations to join the text and images together. This card can be found in card shops in Birmingham as part of a series of animal cards produced by me.
