The beautiful architecture of Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg made it a must for me to record through drawing. It’s spectacular spires, intricate decoration and rich blue details next to the light stone work make it such a pleasure to look at.
The Illustration is part of a series showing the main buildings and famous places around Luxembourg City.

Capturing the beauty and peaceful atmosphere in the Grund. created standing on the bridge over the river Alzette, whilst the ducks gathered below me. Many Sundays I have spent my time there selling my work at the open air gallery – “Konscht am Gronn”, soaking up the sun and sketching the scenes around me.
This illustration will be printed as greetings cards and prints to potentially sell in shops, exhibitions galleries around Luxembourg, perhaps the tourist office as a set of Luxembourg views. This painting can also be purchased as a print of any size, a perfect souvenir if visiting.

Part of the series of Birmingham illustration cards I created for shops to sell around Birmingham.

In this illustration I wished to capture the tranquillity of the Cathedral grounds as well as the power and beauty of the building’s structure. I enjoyed using lines to highlight/describe the sections of the building and turned my ink pen upside down to create solid ink colour for shadows. The contrast of marks used to show different areas in the draw really help to describe what I see, it means less marks are needed to create an impact. Pen, inks and watercolours were used throughout this series of cards.

I love to capture nature and it’s characteristics. These three potted plants show each leave, branch and flower being individual, the pen and ink lets me capture this perfectly as it can create many different types of mark. Each individual and sometimes unpredictable but this makes it pair well when drawing nature as nature is also unpredictable, changing and full of different textures, shapes. The areas left white, bring energy, light and show the constant grow and change of nature.

The three plants are being grown in very different pots; the pot’s characteristics add to the plant’s character and bring variation and a sense of scale to the illustration.

A Valentines Day card illustration featuring the flight of a dove, the symbol of love and peace. A nature based card, showing the grace and beauty of the animal’s features using pen and ink. Tiny marks on the neck captured using single pen pricks, shadows using crosshatching. Energetic movement of the pen, to replicate the movement of the bird’s wings.

The white dove is so pure and fresh, I used white paper to create the drawing and then added a vibrant pink background in Photoshop to further exaggerate this. The small hearts floating about the bird are placed on rectangular white backgrounds; these bring structure and control to the image and add an element of rising upwards. The strong shape and bright colours would stand out on a shelf.

I love to draw beautiful food and a range of different cupcakes together seemed like a sweet image for a greetings illustrated card. Pen and inks and watercolours were used to illustrate the different textures and toppings of the cupcakes. The way I draw I feel brings even more individual character to each one.

When designing the card I did not wish to take any attention away from the illustrations or to have a busy layout. I used Photoshop to line the cakes up giving the detailed, expressive illustrations structure and control. The typography used is simple, balancing the illustrations. The colours are taken from elements in the illustrations to join the text and images together. This card can be found in card shops in Birmingham as part of a series of animal cards produced by me.
